Geilston Bay is located approximately 11nm up the Derwent River near Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.

The bay was named after a Captain Giles and was the site of the first regatta in Australia in 1827.  (See The Boatman (July 2008) for more details)

Around 155 years later in 1982/3, 48 people donated $200 each to establish a home for the Geilston Bay Boat Club. Today the G.B.B.C. is a thriving community club of approximately 300 members.

Named as a `boat` club specifically to include all water going vessels, much of the club's activities revolve around sailing events that happen throughout the year, with monthly sail days, a summer twilight series, and a healthy cruising calendar.

Situated at the head of the bay beside tennis courts, a community oval, and the local high school it has substantial club rooms with bar and catering facilities that open 5 days a week.

As well GBBC has 2 slip ways, 2 jetties and a boat ramp that is also open to the public. As with all community clubs we are always on the lookout for ways to advance our club facilities and social activities and constantly looking for opportunities to involve local business..
