Geilston Bay Boat Clubmore photos Geilston Bay is located approximately 11nm up the Derwent River near Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. The bay was named after a Captain Giles and was the site of
the first regatta in Australia in
1827. (See The Boatman (July 2008) for more details) Named as a `boat` club specifically to include all water going vessels, much of the club's activities revolve around sailing events that happen throughout the year, with monthly sail days, a summer twilight series, and a healthy cruising calendar. Situated at the head of
the bay beside tennis courts, a community oval, and the local high school it
has substantial club rooms with bar and catering facilities that open 5 days
a week.
